By Daniel Paiz
There are history lessons surrounding us in every kind of interest you and I have and often we don’t pay attention to it. Sometimes it’s the tunes floating about our ears as one absentmindedly works their way through a day. Other times it’s something a bit more intentional, often tied to a holiday or time of year.
If you haven’t noticed yet, this writer during NaPoWriMo (and throughout the year) likes to sprinkle references in. This one might just have a couple to look for and if it’s unfamiliar, dig into it. The ones you do know, feel free to list off the reference in the comments.
History Lessons
“…cinco, seis, siete, ocho!”
Prado’s mambo saunters across the airwaves,
upping the energy much like its fast count,
despite purposefully re-reading the words
“perdido en un mundo de confusión”
as I reflect on the writer in the mirror.
Peaks and valleys, wine and molasses,
the blue marble instructs one to navigate such shifts and changes.
The reading shifts to hearing ALL CAPS has the dice rigged,
never unmasking such villainy because to do so negates the,
mystery and history of what’s more than a rapper,
the opponent of one scissor mug comic booked up.
but anyway,
Rap references might be a bit niche,
instead time to learn creative tactics,
from a group aptly dubbed but remembered for their 99th fleet.
Revolutions to learn from might be the move instead,
Herrera or de Meras seem to have some lessons,
although Trotskyism seems to also have merit to spread,
all of the above might be frowned upon,
by “teachers” at Fort Moore in Georgia,
best time to look up some names,
while turning up mambo jams,
best way to learn is with tunes at hand.
