April 20th is a date that means a lot of things across the United States. For some it’s a reference to smoking and partaking in marijuana-related activities. For others it’s a more somber day due to the events of the Columbine school shooting 25 years ago today. For Cypher Sessions, it’s our anniversary date as well, often celebrated with some NaPoWriMo.
Twelve years ago, this writer decided they wanted to dive into Hip-Hop related ideas and themes. Over time, it evolved into also discussing film, pop culture, crossover with Hip-Hop, and more. This place is a record book of the world since 2012 and will continue to be one as long as this writer enjoys it. Happy 12th anniversary Cypher Sessions. May healing and comfort find the families and friends of the Columbine shooting. Enjoy the day if you partake in the 4/20 aspect of today.
Pearls draped around Columbines
Twelve years is a time of celebrating with linen, silk, and apparently pearls.
A time to kick up some dust,
enjoy the past twelve years,
and a time to stare into the horizon.
12 pearls offered,
to the 13 columbines slightly swaying in the breeze,
draped to honor those without choice
those whittled down so quickly and senselessly.
To remember and to appreciate,
the impact those lives meant,
is to continue onward in this journey,
and evolve as life often requires and doesn’t merely suggest.
Recognize your efforts and do one’s best to shed light.
