Remember, remember the 5th of November (NaPoWriMo 2024)

For those in the United States, election day can be quite a scene to witness. For those of you outside of these fifty states, it might be a spectacle that seems a bit different than your elections or experiences with voting. What’s curious, however, is that this particular election falls on November 5th; a day that has quite the history, even if you can only recall the film V for Vendetta bringing this date up.

Here’s some poetry to mull over, as in the US it is uncertain which candidate will win at this time. Also, why not have some distractions and things to ponder instead of being glued to uncounted results? Distractions can be a good thing sometimes. Some new visuals to ponder, if you will.

Remember, remember the 5th of November

Remember, remember the 5th of November,

far back was the gunpowder plot,

I know of some reason such a season of treason,

has ever been forgot.

To overthrow and to burn,

was what the times called for,

and yearned.

now here amongst the child reared of this idea’s origin,

a no-win choice looms

between felon and prosecutor

and it won’t stop.

How typical, how shitty!

Oh, isn’t this painted sow so pretty,

some folks haven’t realized what they’ve caused.

Oh, to give them the benefit of the doubt,

is the mistake we keep making, and still wonder,

how an aging idea has entered this stage of rot.

Choices must be taken, oh they’ll require much breaking,

not of life and bones and limbs.

Rather of the rafters, where the hemophiliac,

dastardly cowards, partaking with outlawed powers,

visit cells, sails, and bottoms of homemade basket burlaps.

If this does not happen,

expect continued herding into contraptions,

where remorse and ridicule inspire,

revisiting such an explosive plot.
