Poetry is often expected to rhyme, or to follow certain structures and processes. There are of course those who wish to break the rules, albeit subtly. Then there are those who focus on the merging of rhymes from poetry with verses from rapping and Hip-Hop. NaPoWriMo is a place to do such a thing.
Sometimes you just have to exercise the skill set that brought you to this art form in the first place.
Sound Check
Reciprocal,
life isn’t always within that vestibule,
between two worlds is what I might consider you,
corrugated,
roundabout hefty way to say I’m built for such a trip,
dual meanings layered about as much as
emcees paintin’ pictures in battle glyphs.
It’s unclear to you,
and you and you and you and you,
renewed is this sword shredding structures, forms, and rules,
not at all immaculate,
fallen far from any prominent level of popular or academic pedigree,
mutt season reveals again mixed-up innards make one the most healthy,
feelin’ boxed in yet?
Scissor lifts won’t raise you to heights next to my interlude,
imagine this kinda effort 365, and what message exudes,
one would be foolish to spar with the Mile High jester,
three points of contact make em tougher than CL grade leather,
references might be too Simpsonian for some,
no wonder they’re so animated.
Brewing thought I decided to share with you,
your lack of motivation to learn is my poetic ineptitude,
weird when you go off course,
your path gets more crowded too.
