Don’t Blame Sloths! (16/30 NaPoWriMo 2025)

By Daniel Paiz

Every once in a while, a comparison comes to mind that just will not leave. One such comparison for this writer is comparing humans to sloths. That might seem unlikely at first in some ways during another NaPoWriMo entry.

However, “Don’t Blame Sloths!” is a call to not embody creatures that humans enjoy so much. There are attributes from the animal kingdom that humans anthropomorphize and frankly, those traits should be left alone. Only so much can be learned from animals, and do not blame the critters! They asked for none of this.

Don’t Blame Sloths!

I’m convinced Earth is a sloth,

Cousins with Flash but instead drives

very cautiously and constantly full of worry.

If there’s further evidence needed for this theory,

look around every which direction you choose.

Laws are trying to figure out who should be paid

when it comes to sampling music,

and are nowhere near prepared for

Crypto, and AI, and online kerfuffles about online matters.

Somehow,

senators and representatives hang around,

growing algae nowhere near as delectable,

as either kind produced by two-toed or three-toed relatives.

Swimming motions are made to get somewhere,

and despite the effort little to no distance is traversed.

While occasionally cute or adorable,

when posed with important questions or inquiries,

many of those in charge have the dopiest facial expressions

and cannot fathom such audacity in that moment.

Information?

Explanations?

Buddy, I’m just here to be, alright, alright, alright.

I truly appreciate and enjoy the mannerisms of sloths;

they just don’t need to be shared so much,

by those who are supposed

to be leading and building the future of tomorrow,

with such ridiculous decisions today.
