The news is full of random stories and interactions one would not have on their 2025 bingo calendar. With all the tariffs the United States is placing on everybody, one has stuck out amongst the rest. A small set of islands outside of Australia was on the tariffs list: Heard Island & McDonald Islands.

This NaPoWriMo entry is all about how these islands had their lives flipped turned upside down.

Heard & McDonald Islands Blast Off

Rollin’ with my king and emperor folk

I could sense violence,

not from subzero temps of the sea,

I handle that with ease

after a snack of lichen,

moss, moss, moss,

Nah it’s someone far, far away,

some Sapien never close to greens

yet somehow such orange scaly cutis,

elderly stumblin’ fella soundin’ real brutish,

about our HIMI islands,

squad, squad, squad,

Ran off the last of his kind,

back in 1991,

they chirpin’ round the world,

trying to push audio violence,

shh, shh, shhhh,

seal teams had ’em scooting away,

sailin’ off without our prime stuff,

sometimes they fish still, but now they wanna tariff us,

I wanna see em collect it

we spot ’em with seabird optics,

caw, caw, caw,
