I’m Not Giving Up Yet (NaPoWriMo 7/30 for 2026)

By Daniel Paiz

There are instances when one might feel down, sad, or tired. Frustration can set in when doing stuff over and over, and the goals one makes are not reached. Resetting, recalibrating, approaching what one is doing from a different perspective–all of these things and more are done. Sometimes, it just takes persistence and a belief in yourself.

Attending Raye’s tour stop in Denver last night brought about this idea. She has a song called Life Boat. and this line keeps repeating throughout the song. It’s a reminder to keep going, and that’s what poetry provides as well.

There’s a lot to work through in life, but I’m Not Giving Up Yet.

I’m Not Giving Up Yet

Watched them go away slow,

lose weight, color, and lively glow,

toughest three months encountered but

I’m not giving up yet.

Pain had built up for some time,

burning bright and hard to move,

went and got the meds and rested because

I’m not giving up yet.

//////////////////////////

Jotting down notes so eloquent,

encouragement gave from different bends,

approached from various creatives who said,

don’t be giving up yet,

Stood before a mighty crowd,

words though seem to have been drowned out,

recognition seemed fleeting and dazed but

I wasn’t giving up yet.

/////////////

I have experienced viewpoints as gently stirring as Mt Fuji

and as damning and cruel as your worst day on Earth.

Metronomes aligned in patterns similar to styrofoam staggered,

momentary escapes like these won’t do much to not be haggered.

Joy, hobby, exacting energy in life is probably how you portray

I’m not giving up yet.
