Dripping (Poem #4, NaPoWriMo 2024)

By Daniel Paiz

Poetry is a truly impressionable way to express thoughts and feelings that might otherwise stay hidden. Ideas or beliefs that are tucked away or might be cast in a light that others aren’t seeing in the right spectrum. There’s also the choice of how many words to use; less is more, and space can be far more consuming as a pause than as a squishing of words.

Dripping

Dripping,

an eager bead of sweat leads the charge across imperfections,

exploring every inch before falling amongst brethren,

nutrients escape the labor squeezing out passion.

Deep breaths,

one, two, three, before remnants of ecstasy,

the world blurs

pillars of support wobble without hesitation,

gasps glide across the walls

as excitement winds around amazement.

Stretching,

muscles to trust to glances to feelings,

euphoria follows exhaustion and fatigued gleaming,

time stands still as there is no yesterday or tomorrow.

After hearing the meditative sounds surrounding

the thoughts swirling above,

it’s almost time.

Ball is life and the court teaches better than any gavel or TV show on air.
