Healing You (Poem #13, NaPoWriMo 2024)

By Daniel Paiz

Nearing the halfway mark with the thirteenth entry for NaPoWriMo 2024, Healing You is a fun yet reflective way to utilize poetry. There are fewer pop culture references than originally intended. However, this one is born out of creative flow. There’s a not a lot more to say here mainly because this one felt really good writing. Hopefully it feels really good reading or repeating out loud.

Healing You

Chasing through the past like Cable,

Sommers aren’t as warm when a past seems unstable,

alas, time to curb unnecessary internal words,

fact being I know I wasn’t in charge of the origin,

courage then won’t be fastidious,

not so narrow of a lens,

red or green dots pointing out,

know of when to avoid the ledge.

Locked and loaded verbal artillery,

for whenever situations get interesting,

overused force like US bombing foreign ministries,

it’ll take time.

Lowering the barrel to brew something other than angst,

rolling through the mud without pretexts of tanks,

thankful for the breeze,

clouds to ignite different paths for the mind,

rigidity has it’s place

but relearning yourself,

patience is measured in healing you over time.
