Goal Minded (NaPoWriMo 24/30 for 2026)

By Daniel Paiz

Resiliency, patience, stubbornness–these traits are all good ones to have in pursuit of something bigger. But, they can also work better when there is a plan in mind. It doesn’t have to be gamed out with intimate precision when one starts. It simply has to have an end goal that one can work towards methodically.

Creating a poem can be the same thing. A greater message in mind can be the end goal, with different actions and steps and wordplay along the way. That was the focus for this piece today. Enjoy.

Goal Minded

I hesitate to equate fate is not my own,

with a call to arms where I recklessly pursue a throne,

Instead, it might be better,

move past steel and leather,

no chain mail just connecting spells,

to abridge myself to destinations better,

goal-minded not train blinded,

there’s a path forward without tunnel binding.

Clean running no coal burning,

this trip headed onward without dirty sponsorship dealings,

organic in creation and functioning optimal,

Proximate positioning as sweat gets glistening,

there are no easy drives here.

commit to the steps once wanted and are now revealed,

I can feel that anticipation building and arriving now,

showtime is full of nerves but pressing through is the realized “wow…”
