Rogue One prequel series in the works

On Thursday, November 8th, Disney CEO Bob Iger conducted a routine fourth quarter earnings call to inform investors on the state of the company, and give updates on projects in the company pipeline.

One exciting project from Lucasfilm points towards the development of a Rogue One prequel television series, following the Rebel spy Cassian Andor.

The series will land on Disney’s newly named Disney Plus streaming service, and there’s one more juicy tidbit in store for the series.

A familiar face returns

Diego Luna will reprise his role as Cassian Andor in the series that will follow him in the early beginnings of the budding Rebellion.  Here’s how StarWars.com describes the newly announced tale:

“The rousing spy thriller will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire.”

This opens up a plethora of storytelling opportunities for both Lucasfilm and Disney.

This post-Episode III to pre-Rogue One time period will offer up a different perspective of the rebellion, compared to what’s been shown in past films and animated series.

Cassian Andor is a talented Rebel intelligence officer and spy, hopefully meaning both his spy craft and tactical acumen will be primary plot points for this series.

There is also the possibility we see how snarky Imperial-turned-Rebel droid K-2SO and Cassian meet prior to the events of Rogue One.

How serious is this new Disney platform with Star Wars

Lucasfilm and Disney are all in on their new streaming platform.

With The Mandalorian currently in development and now this series, Disney is investing a ton of time, money, and talent into developing their streaming service and content library.

Having the potential of multiple high quality and high budget Star Wars television series makes everyone at Cypher Sessions very excited for the future in a galaxy far, far away.
