The 411… (Day 11 of NaPoWriMo 2015)

Many thanks to everyone who has been keeping up as April has been starting to get pretty busy it seems for a lot of people. As always stay tuned for some featured poets other than us who will be sharing some of their fantastic, original work, and also check out everyone else who is also participating in NaPoWriMo 2015. As for today, let’s get into it!

*Ring……ring……….ring……..We’re sorry, your call cannot be completed as dialed. Please try again later.* *Hangs up phone*

It looks like the line is busy,

It’s okay because you’re not supposed to be able

to reach out to anyone about

what’s going on around you.

Or next to you.

Or to you.

Don’t remember Ayotzinapa,

so that you won’t learn what happens outside of these borders.

Don’t remember Walter Scott,

so you can forget that turning your back to an officer

might be the last thing you ever do.

Don’t remember Mumia Jamal,

because Guilty until proven Innocent is the law of the land,

and forget about speaking out against that or anything else.

Don’t remember Jessica Hernandez,

because while of course no one is perfect and mistakes were made on both sides,

let’s just gun down our youth instead of working to first understand

where they might be coming from, and what may prompt them to act out

make bad decisions.

Don’t remember any injustice,

anyone who has been wronged,

who should be held accountable,

or why it is that

everyone is constantly on their phones but,

no one ever talks.

Don’t worry.

One day

hopefully soon,

Justice will call upon all those

who make us all wait until the dial tone.
