NaPoWriMo 2021 Poem #4: Spring Reflections

By Daniel Paiz

NaPoWriMo continues on this fourth day, and even at this point it can be a bit of a challenge if you don’t have ideas swirling around you. To be honest, most of the time these pieces are created as I sit down to type them out; occasionally they are transferred over from previous ideas from my notebook or phone.

This one is not one of those. With the arrival of Easter comes the feeling of renewal. This holiday, along with the start of Spring, can almost feel like a new year in a way. Perhaps with each new season is a chance to reflect, regroup, and restart whatever one might be doing or pursuing. This one is more of a reflection of a reflection on the state of US society in the present moment, a society that teeters between starting something new and going back to familiar fatigue.

Spring Reflections

If you’re religious

today might be uplifting,

If you’re suspicious

perhaps conflicting,

But however you might feel about

resurrection a surge should come either way,

because with the new season

it’s time to truthfully excavate

Better weather better opportunity,

determine lunar or just goofy,

reel life captures each frame

to picture whether it’s going your way,

sit for a minute

in this predicament

and question yourself:

Does death lead to rebirthed inner health?

See I’m phoenix not from the Zona,

ashes delivering nutrients to future self,

despite even Corona

restrictions lifted when it comes to potential felt,

Don’t get it twisted,

there’s no conspiracy thought here just know,

what those in power have already dealt,

no further action needed as the split happened in stealth.
