Introducing NaPoWriMo 2020: Welcome to Poetic

By Daniel Paiz

Welcome to National Poetry Writing Month everyone, or as those of us who are familiar with what April brings, NaPoWriMo 2020! The challenge that has been taken for the past handful of years is to write 30 poems in 30 days. It might not seem like a lot, but coming up with consistent content can be harder than you might think.

So, there will a few guest appearances. Unfortunately due to COVID-19, there are only a couple of video submissions due to everything being shut down. Not to stress! There are a few gems hidden along the way this April, and I will be getting back to my writing roots when it comes to rap verses, spoken word, and more.

Introducing…

This will be the first poem of April 2020, and it’s basically here to set the tone for all of you. For those of you new to this, this will be a taste; for those of you returning, welcome back to my style of poetry.

Welcome to Poetic

It’s 30 for 30 without any sports on,

What, are you already missing that holocron?

Rebellion might be your game,

but social distancing is beyond recognition,

Ezra or Ahsoka or whatever nerd name you’re not getting,

I’ve rolled through Hades scooping daisies,

phrasing uniquely mine out of the danger zone

Like Hermes or Mercury.

Resentful seeing today’s horrors mixed with

school daze lessons ignored and paged through?

I engage you without roundabout whatabout-isms

that leaders in daily press conferences propose to you,

If greed isn’t the solution to all of these issues

then what else answers those conspiracy theorists’ concerns,

is something I’ll never eschew, but anyway

Prepare yourself for this Rebel to poeticize you!
